Erin Howell, 2’s & 3’s Teacher
I began as a mother of two young boys here at Anchors-A-Wee. I became involved with the school and loved it. After my boys graduated from the program, I was asked if I would like to work at the school. I have a background in early childhood education and special education, so I said… Yes, and it’s been the best decision ever.
I was given another opportunity to teach the two year old class, and it has been another great experience for me to become involved. The two year old class is a wonderful and loving environment for me to participate in. The children are all eager to learn, play and grow.
In my free time, I am busy in my son’s activities…martial arts, baseball, flag football, dodgeball, basketball and swimming. I also enjoy volunteering in their elementary school. When I have time I also enjoy skiing, boating and socializing with friends
Marguerite Stevens, 2’s Assistant Teacher
I love the babies of the school, or should I say…my babies! This is truly a wonderful place to spend my days. I love watching your children grow and flourish in this fun environment. Every year we get a new group of great little kids, they come to us shy and timid, and we help them master skills and develop a sense of confidence and independence. I love to help children learn to follow simple directions and watch them develop pride in the things they have created and learned in class.
I reside in Cape St Claire and I have three children, two grown and my youngest who is still in school. I enjoy children of all ages, and love to have the neighborhood kids over at our house, where we have a pool and enjoy swimming and relaxing. I also enjoy watching and cheering my son on in his football and basketball games, along with enjoying his musical talents.

I love the small, family-like atmosphere of Anchors-A-Wee, and am so grateful for the experiences that the school provided for my kids while they built friendships and learned the skills needed for kindergarten.
I have a Master's degree in School Psychology from the University of MD - College Park, and worked as a Psychologist for three years in Anne Arundel County Public Schools before having my children. I am so happy to be back in a school setting working with children. I find it so rewarding to help kids feel good about themselves!
I live on the Broadneck Peninsula with my husband and three children. My kids keep me pretty busy with their activities including soccer, softball, basketball, and girl scouts. If I do have any free-time, I enjoy reading, exercising, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.

In my free time, I love spending time with my family and friends, and enjoy taking pictures, traveling, scrapbooking, and making cards and crafts.
Sarah Taylor, Pre-K Teacher
I am the mother of two children who have both graduated from Anchors-A-Wee. When my youngest was in his final year here, I was given the opportunity to teach the 'Art Goes to Preschool' program. I was thrilled with the prospect of continuing on at the preschool once the children moved on, and jumped at the chance to combine the roll of music and art teacher. Since then, I have moved back in the classroom and taught in the twos, threes and fours programs. I am excited for this new opportunity to teach the Pre-K program and look forward to another great year at Anchors-A-Wee.
I am originally from England where I studied elementary education, and have taught in both the UK and US. My husband and I moved to the states in 2000 and have lived on the Broadneck peninsula since 2005. We love spending time outdoors with the children and we are often found biking, walking, and camping together.
Brooke Long, 3's Teacher
I live on the Broadneck Peninsula with my husband and two children. I have a BA degree in Psychology and previously worked as a Preschool Teacher prior to having children. Both children have attended AAW and loved it, so I was thrilled to become a part of this great school! I worked with Laura Carty years ago at another school and once my kids were old enough I was able to get myself back in the preschool world not just as a mother but professionaly as well.
Wendy Rhoe, 3's & 4's Assistant Teacher
Hello! I grew up on the Broadneck Peninsula and attended Severn School and James Madison University. My husband, Kris, works at Northrop Gruman at the Bay Bridge and we have one son, Collins. In our spare time we enjoy boating, house renovations and spending time as a family. Collins, along with my nephew attended Anchors-A-Wee and we loved the environment. For the past several years, I have enjoyed substitute teaching at various independent schools. When the opportunity became available to become part of the AAW faculty I was very excited. I enjoy working with children and getting to experience each day through their eyes. It is wonderful to be part of such a caring faculty and staff.
Christine Clark, Extended Day 4’s Teacher and 3's Assistant Teacher
Hello, my name is Christine Clark. I am married with 3 children, Gabe, and twins Jack and Alexandra. I graduated from University of Delaware and received a Bachelor of Arts in Math Education. I moved to wonderful Annapolis in 1998. During my college years, I worked at the YWCA in New Castle County as a Before and After School Care Counselor and as a Camp Counselor in the summers. After college, I went to work in corporate America for 10 years and realized how much I missed working with children. All three of my children went to Anchors-A-Wee which is when I fell in love with this preschool.
In 2011, I was lucky enough to have been hired as a substitute Teacher Assistant. That position was very fun for me as it gave me the opportunity to meet and play with all the children at AAW. In 2013, I began my first year with Anchors-A-Wee Preschool as a permanent Teacher Assistant working with the amazing Mrs. Dean! In 2015, I became the 4’s Extended Day Head Teacher and loving every minute! I look forward to getting to know you and your children! I can assure you that this adventure will be full of excitement, learning, and discoveries.

I have been an active Church member for 18 years and have been working at Anchors-A-Wee for nine years. My favorite hobby is taking photos....lots of photos!
Being a part of your children's lives brings me great joy and I feel blessed to be part of the Anchors-A-Wee family.
Laura Superczynski, Art Teacher
I grew up in Cape St. Claire, and have lived on the Broadneck Peninsula since 1979. I absolutely love it here! I live in Annapolis with my husband, Bill, and our three daughters, Anna, Kate, and Megan. I first fell in love with Anchors A Wee when our daughters attended this wonderful school, and I am thrilled to be joining the staff here! This is truly one of my happy places, and I look forward to meeting all of your precious children this year.
I have a BA in Elementary Education, and a Master of Library Science with a concentration in School Library Media Programs. Prior to having children, I worked in the AACPS school system as an Elementary School Media Specialist at Bodkin Elem in Pasadena. Since Anna's birth in 2005, I have been fortunate enough to stay at home with my girls! They are a busy bunch, and keep the mom taxi in full swing. When not at AAW, you will find me shuttling Anna to swim practice, Kate to dance and theater practices, and Megan to art classes, as well as volunteering in their schools..
If I find myself with free time, I love to cook, read, and sing. I am looking forward to the coming school year at AAW!
Katie Brusgard, Pre-K Assistant Teacher
Hi my name is Katie Brusgard. This will be my 14th year as an assistant teacher at Anchors-A-Wee Preschool. I have had the opportunity to work over the years with all the different age groups. This will be my 13th year as an assistant teacher in the Pre-K program.
I have been married to my husband Tom for 35 years and we have two adult children. Jennifer is 32, married and works for Aberdeen Proving ground. Eric is 31 and is also married, and works for the Department of Defense. No grandbabies yet - but have 2 grand puppies :)
My husband and I love to travel and enjoy our downtime at our condo in Florida. I love my AAW family and am looking forward to another great year with your children.
Jennifer Weaver, Music Teacher
I have lived in Arnold for the past 11 years with my husband and two daughters. Both girls have attended Anchors-A-Wee and we love the school. I have a degree in elementary education from Salisbury University and have taught 2nd and 3rd grade. I am thrilled to be back in a school setting and am looking forward to an exciting year! Music has a positive impact on every aspect of a child's early development. Dancing and fingerplays help acclerate a child's physical health and development. Music can calm and soothe your child or get them in the mood to be active, and take threm through a wide range of emotions.
And...what could be more fun then clapping and dancing with friends!
Melanie Dean, Assistant Director & Art Teacher
I’m Mrs. Dean. I have been a part of Anchors-A-Wee since 1997. That is when my middle daughter, Samantha started here. Funny story, my oldest daughter, Madeline went to a different preschool and was taught by Miss Gibbs. If you didn’t know, Miss Gibbs is now Mrs. (Laura) Carty. Small world. My youngest daughter, Sylvia also learned here at Anchors-A-Wee, and the year after she graduated, I started teaching here, in 2002. As for me – I grew up in Crownsville and married the man I have had a crush on since I was in middle school. We have lived in the Annapolis area since 1993. I previously taught the 3's and 4's classes here at AAW, and I am now dabling in Art Appreciation- really it's an excuse to still be able to come and have fun with preschoolers!
Mikaely Hentnick, Director
I have loved Anchors-A-Wee since I moved to the neighborhood in 2002 and saw the sign with the super cute name! When my children turned 3, I signed them up here and haven’t looked back. I dreamed of working here since they started and luckily that dream came true! This will be my 8th year at AAW. I love being here every day – it’s truly a fun job!
My husband and I have a boy and a girl, ages 13 & 11 and are now in middle school. Time flies faster than you think, so enjoy these days while they are little!! We love to play with our dog, a Vizsla named Ellie. Activities we enjoy are hockey (go Caps!), swimming, golf, acting, and snowmobiling. I feel very blessed to have this wonderful job with such super people! We are a family here at Anchors-A-Wee.
